Kapiti Marine Reserve
We're based at Paraparaumu Beach, in the lee of Kapiti Island and adjacent to the Kapiti Marine Reserve. The marine reserve was established in 1992 and covers 2167 hectares. This provides us with abundant sea life, including blue moki, penguins, seals, dolphins and even sea-horses. The reserve is known for marine plant and animal communities that would usually be found in colder or warmer waters, from seals and penguins through to subtropical fish and sharks.
It's also home for some top dive spots, including the Hole-in-the-Wall underwater archway with spectacular light and sea life.
See the downloadable Marine Reserve brochure on the right.
When in the Marine Reserve, remember:
- No fishing of any kind
- Don't take or kill marine life
- Don't remove or disturb any marine life or materials
- Don't feed fish - it disturbs their natural behaviour
- Take care when anchoring to avoid damaging the sea floor
